Parenting a teen can be just as challenging as being a teen. It's important that you have someone who can empower you to utilize the skills and strengths you already possess when dealing with your teen so that improved communication can happen. You relationship with your child is one of the most important and unique relationships they will ever have. It's an opportunity for you to foster your unique parenting style and develop different ways to see what works well and what doesn't with your teen.
Often times, it's easy for parents to get into comparison and perfectionism which can be very shaming. The good thing is that there is no right way to do it but there is a way to learn with your teen as they are receiving therapy so that you are both carrying the tools you learn with you into your home.
In my work with parents I have learned to appreciate the joys and the challenges involved in the parenting process. The goal is that you and your family can find happiness and joy in a time that can be challenging and full of change. I have had the pleasure of helping families navigate a variety of challenging situations such as
- blended families
- traditional family units
- children with long-term disabilities
- life transitions
- death of a parent or sibling
- work/life balance
- positive discipline
